Homes built prior to 1975 with no major renovations are to have Battery Smoke alarms with 10 year sealed battery. 

Homes built after 1975 to present your Smoke Alarms must be hard wired and interconnected.  

Smoke alarms older than 10 years of age MUST be replaced. 

Combination Smoke / CO Alarms MUST employ both simulated Voice and Tone.

Carbon monoxide alarms are required on each habitable floor including basements.
