Fire prevention is a key function within the fire department. By definition the goal of fire prevention includes educating the public how to prevent potentially harmful fires and how to take precautions for survival. Fire Prevention achieves our goal through three specific objectives: Education, Engineering, and Enforcement. The Westford Fire Department is very proactive in providing these services educating the public through our Student Awareness Fire Education Program (S.A.F.E.). Engineering is often approached through Codes, Standards and use of alternative methods that will secure equivalent safety acceptable to public safety officials. This is achieved through plan review and inspections conducted by our office as well as the building department. Enforcement is through inspection services. The Westford Fire Department prides itself in having a successful proactive inspection program. Quarterly inspections are completed regularly by each shift to reduce emergencies and or possible damage in the event of a fire. Fire Prevention is a coordinated effort from our dedicated fire personnel to the consumer. We thank our community for working with us to secure a safe place to live, work and play.
